Extol is currently seeking a Tooling Design Engineer 2. This role is responsible for developing detailed, complex tooling designs for Extol’s standard products. This includes mechanical and pneumatic components, as well as sensors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with customers to clarify machine requirements, gain approval for detailed design proposal, and resolve any design issues that arise.
- Work with Project Managers to set up kickoff and design review meetings to maintain project timelines.
- Analyze tooling concepts for function, ergonomics, safety, and manufacturability.
- Specify mechanical motions systems (including cylinders and slides), proper part nesting, part orientation, machine sensor, and part verification systems.
- Specify all components to be purchased and manufactured, and generates and imports an accurate Bill of Materials.
- Creates and maintains design records including all concept specifications, drawings, models, purchased component information, and engineering data/calculations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience
- B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related science, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience designing tooling using Solidworks or Inventor.
- Proven ability to perform basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Basic understanding of machine build process.
- Demonstrate technical mathematics abilities to perform engineering calculations and analysis during design creation and testing.
Hours Required: Full-Time, 48 Hours/Week (Average) Exempt (Salary)
Regular Work Schedule: Monday – Friday (from time to time, work may require non-typical work hours to accommodate project deadlines and irregular workflow).
