Overall Equipment Effectiveness
What is Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)?
- OEE is a way to measure how well your equipment is performing.
- Calculate OEE by multiplying three factors: Availability, Performance, and Quality
- To achieve 100% OEE, you would have to produce perfect parts as quickly as possible, without any unplanned stop time. While this would be amazing, it is not a realistic goal.
OEE = Availability × Performance × Quality

What is Availability?
- Availability is how much time your equipment can run during planned production time.
- Availability is affected by both unplanned and planned stops (downtime, preventative maintenance, process adjustments)
Availability = Planned Production Time – Stop Time

What is Performance?
- Performance is a measure of how much the equipment produces.
- Performance compares the actual cycle time against the specified cycle time.
Performance = (Specified Cycle Time × Total Count) / Run Time

What is Quality?
- Quality is measured by how many good parts the equipment produces.
- Any part that is not a defect is a good part.
Quality = Good Count / Total Count
