nanoSTAKE Design Guidelines

Download these guidelines.

Round Boss Design Notes:

Height:0.8D – 1.5D (7 mm MAX)
Diameter:≤1.25H (5 mm MAX)
Hole:1.1D – 1.25D (smaller is best for strength)
Volume:50 mm³ MAX

Hollow boss designs are OK to use with nanoSTAKE.

Rectangular Boss Design Notes:

Height:0.8W – 1.5W (7 mm MAX)
Width:1 mm – 3 mm MAX
Length:10 mm MAX
Hole W:1.1W – 1.25W (smaller is best for strength)
Hole L:1.1L – 1.25L (minimal impact on strength)
Volume:50 mm³ MAX

General Punch Design Notes

  • All nanoSTAKE punches are custom-designed for their application. This allows each stake point to be optimized for maximum strength.
  • Punches are typically designed to be 95% of the boss volume. This ensures the boss material fills and “packs out” the punch cavity.
  • The maximum recommended boss volume is 50 mm³. Larger volumes may be possible. Please contact us for feasibility testing.

Why Radius Is Important:

  • A radius improves strength and reduces A-surface sink.
  • Add radius to the base of the boss and chamfer to the bottom of the mating hole.

Boss Spacing Notes

  • NanoSTAKE modules have an 8 mm tip diameter.
  • Keep boss centerlines 10 mm apart for adjustment and variation.
  • The punch cavity can be offset from the nanoSTAKE center to fit tighter boss spacing.
  • Allow at least 1 mm between part features and the nanoSTAKE module edge for adjustability.

NanoSTAKE modules cannot be tipped or angled.
